Social media is a new area of marketing that has so much potential and so much reach. But the tricky part is that because it is new and developing, there are few people that have it figured out, especially of how to get results for the effort that you put in.
Let me see if this sounds familiar. You build your website around your brand and the message that you want to portray to your clients and the prospects you want. Then you create accounts on major social media platforms to get some engagement. You read some web articles, or even the articles that mention it in business magazines and you start getting ideas.
The advice is very similar. Set up your accounts, then start posting a consistent message to attract clients and get likes. You’re supposed to build a following, create a relationship with your friends or potential clients and get engagement. It may work and it may not. In the end, you put a lot of time into it, perhaps even hire a company or a full time staff to manage the social media accounts, but it becomes really hard to know what’s really going on and if all of this posting makes a difference. What do my 146 likes on Facebook even mean? Or that why the article that I spent a few hours crafting to share only had 10 viewers.
Let’s face it, there’s a ton of “work” around social media that just takes your time, attention and effort away and often, you have know idea what your doing, why your doing it and what you can expect out of it. To make matters worse, you’ve got a few people who make it look easy and with their thousands of followers and regular posts. Have you noticed that many of them are full time at their blogs or social media posts? Don’t compare yourself to them or feel bad about your efforts.
